Spring is one of the best times to inspect lead roofs, flashings and gutters. Winter exposes weak points. Cold nights, frost, standing water and repeated expansion and contraction can all reveal movement, fatigue and early failure.

By March, small issues such as hairline cracks, lifted edges, blocked outlets, staining and movement at junctions often become easier to see. Left unchecked, these defects can turn into leaks, damp problems and avoidable replacement work.

6) Clips, fixings and restraint failures
