1. Code Selection

Spires and turrets require heavy codes for stability. Code 6 is the minimum, with Code 7 often specified on tall or exposed structures.

2. Bay Layout

Divide the spire or turret into vertical bays, typically using wood-cored rolls to form the joints. Bays should be no wider than 1 m, tapering towards the top. Each bay must overlap correctly at joints to shed water.

3. Decorative Rolls & Joints

Decorative standing rolls are often specified on heritage spires. They provide both function (movement joints) and form (visual rhythm). Rolls should be evenly spaced and aligned with architectural features below.
