What Is Sand Cast Lead?

Sand cast lead sheet is produced by pouring molten lead onto a prepared sand bed before dressing and finishing to the required thickness. This traditional process creates a subtly varied surface and mechanical qualities that are highly valued in heritage leadwork, including domes, gutters, flat areas and ornamental details on historic buildings.
